6/19/2006 3-0i guess i'm an official adult now...or so i've been recently told.
maybe it's bc i have so much going on right now, or maybe it's bc the whole 'you're old' thing never really bothered me, or maybe it's bc people make it out to be a bigger deal than it needs to be...but turning 30...i must say...it's not that big of a deal. here's what i think 30 might mean...
-> i do feel like i should be more responsible (i'm clearly excluding anything that involves drinking w/ that statement)
-> i do feel like i should have some kind of a clue as to life and how it works (of course, since birth i thought i knew more about life than 90% of the population...so, nothing new there)
-> i also feel like i need to savor the 30's a lil better than i did the 20's...try for less stress, less anxiety, less negativity (i know - best of luck there) and maybe more appreciation and acceptance...which may lead to more pure enjoyment and a more mellow mindy? heh, worth a shot.
so, there ya have it...i think i've come up with a good plan. it should be a good plan bc i'm officially wise now and wise people come up with good plans.
well, here's a list of what i've done in my 20's (let's say post-college = 20's)...
i graduated college
i traveled to and worked in Europe
i moved to Boston and started from scratch
i had a few years of intense bike'n and road races (mostly bc i didn't have a car, but also bc i enjoyed it)
i bought a townhouse
i married the right guy i learned how to surf in Hawaii
i busted out a pretty amazing kid
i went through some intense post-partum stuff and came out the other side intact
i had 5 post-college jobs (meaning 5 different places thought i was a good person to hire...fools)
i bought my first car (used Volvo), my 2nd car (used Altima), my 3rd car (brand spank'n new Subaru)
i increased my love for candy
i sold a townhouse
i bought a new house
i played (and still play) on a softball team every Sunday from May to Nov for 7 years of my 20's (minus the time when i was knocked up)
i lost 2 grandfathers and 1 grandmother
i mastered the ability to iron my clothes with a spray bottle of water
i went to the Daytona 500 (but i didn't wave a turkey leg)
i kept and gained a great group of close friends, all pretty amazing people
i finally decided that drinking alcohol was a good thing...so, i drank a lot of it
i was diagnosed with endometriosis and had multiple surgeries...always a good time...but turned out ok
i didn't get in any fist fights!
i was introduced to the DVR and the way i watch tv will never be the same
i saw my sister and brother both get married
i have found that i have an interest in photography
i have acquired an appreciation for good wine and good cheese
i didn't get any speeding tickets
...that's all i can think of for now...can't wait to see the 30-40 list...good grief...better get to work!
happy 30th to me. :)
6/14/2006 jetson envyis it weird that i think about being a Jetson on a regular basis? i have a fond memory of wife Jane Jetson getting up in the morning and standing on a conveyor belt while machines dressed and prepared her for the day. i think the show was originally supposed to take place in 2062, so i guess i’ll be 86 when i can first step on a similar conveyor belt…looking forward to it. i suppose for my own sanity, i should stop envisioning the idea of becoming a Jetson every night when i have to walk up the stairs to go to bed….”what if i just stepped into an air tube that shot me upstairs into my bed, while brushing my teeth, washing my face and putting on my pjs all at the same time”…what if? anyway, carry on – just sharing another example of my insanity. 6/10/2006 enough rain alreadyseriously, will somone please stop the freak'n rain?!?!
i couldn't help myself - i had to start calculating the amount of rain lately, bc i'm sooo sick of it!
get this...i added up the rain amount we've gotten since the first of May until now...
May: ~12.48 inches and it rained 17/31 days
June: ~6.5 inches and 9/10 days so far
overall - in 41 days, it has rained 63% of the time and ~19 inches (and growing) - WTF?!? - that's insane to me...especially since it's POURING rain outside right now! can't deal. rain makes people bitter, especially when one lives in a flood plain (grr). so ENOUGH! 6/2/2006 scottie got hitchedso, my brother got married last weekend. we actually got to travel down to Hollywood, FL for the festivities (Sarah's rents live there). it's hot there. overall, it was a great extended wknd and they had a Buddhist ceremony - very neat experience. plus, they had a gong - can't really go wrong when there's a gong!
the only bummer - it ain't easy to attend wedding festivities and pre/post-parties when you have a 19 month old. for some reason Aiden wasn't to keen on staying up late and booze'n...party pooper. let's just say that i dreamed about having an aupair. damn rich people.
anyway - my bro is now a husband - feel sorry for sarah - damn fool, that woman. here are some photos...check out the gong! |
